About Lamers Law
The foundation of Lamers Law has been over 20 years in the making. Since the day that she first entered law school, Amanda knew that her goal was to use her legal knowledge to help people. She understood that law was an important tool to navigate most of our everyday needs in life, and that access to legal services was so important to protect one’s rights.
After practising briefly in the United States, Amanda’s career took some unexpected twists and turns. She wound up working for over a decade within the pharmaceutical and dietary supplements industries, helping large-scale life sciences companies navigate a complex framework of regulations in order to stay compliant with the law. She knew that her work was indirectly helping others, but it wasn’t the hands-on client service that she had always wanted.
When COVID hit, Amanda realized that it was time for a change. A Durham Region native, she wanted to use her diverse legal knowledge and passion for life-long learning to help her own community first. She left the world of power suits and large corporations behind and launched Lamers Law – a small firm focused on those everyday needs.
Today, Lamers Law is focused on the core areas needed by Amanda’s neighbours in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and surrounding areas, though her largely virtual practice enables her to expand this geography, as needed.
Amanda is committed to providing the advice her clients need to understand the implications of their decisions on those issues that matter most to them. Amanda is helping individuals draft their wills and powers of attorney, formulating estate plans for after they’re gone so her clients’ wishes will be carried out as envisioned. She’s dealing with family law matters such as cohabitation agreements, and providing counsel to her clients through the separation and divorce process. She’s also assisting small businesses with their legal needs, so her clients have the right legal foundations to set them up for success.

Amanda began her career with a local paper route, which solidified her drive and hard work ethic. Initially eyeing a career in journalism, Amanda contributed to the Whitby Free Press and co-hosted a high school radio show, later delivering TV and radio news at Western University, where she completed her combined honours degree in English and Media, Information & Technoculture.
Upon completion, Amanda returned to her childhood dream of becoming a lawyer, using the work ethic honed as a youth and off-spring of hard-working immigrant parents, to obtain two law degrees in three years, one from the University of Windsor and the other from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Her quest for knowledge has never stopped, and she continues to pursue legal education on both sides of the border.
Amanda began practising law with a medical malpractice firm in Detroit, Michigan, which launched her interest in the life sciences field. She spent the next 15 years in various roles, including senior compliance manager of a major pharmaceutical company and, later, senior legal counsel heading a team of regulatory affairs professionals, using her U.S. and Canadian legal background to ensure product compliance in international markets.
Amanda’s legal knowledge, keen eye, and strategic thinking led her into these high level regulatory and compliance positions, which allowed her to play an important role in working to keep Canadian consumers safe when taking certain medicines and supplements.
Yet Amanda’s home and heart were always in Durham Region. She’s been a past board member, including serving for three years as President, with YWCA Durham, which provides quality services to women, children, and families in Durham Region. She also volunteers with Luke’s Place, offering family law support for women who are fleeing abuse. Now she’s become a business owner in Durham Region – offering legal services to the community that has helped raise and support her.
In her spare time, Amanda enjoys travelling as much as she likes staying local and exploring the treasures of the region, with one or more of her three dogs in tow where possible, and perhaps a niece or nephew along for the adventure!
